Reverse engineering for obsolete and failed gears
Agni Engineering supports worn, broken or obsolete spiral bevel gears and bevel gear sets when original drawings are unavailable. Samples, mating components and operating information are studied together so reconstructed dimensions and assumptions can be reviewed before prototype or production approval.
What a sample can and cannot reveal
A sample can provide bore and mounting dimensions, tooth count, spiral hand, approximate geometry, material clues, hardness data and evidence of wear. Wear, heat-treatment distortion, repairs and incorrect field adjustment can hide the original design intent.
The mating member and assembly matter
- Both gear and pinion samples
- Housing or assembly drawing
- Machine make, model and function
- Speed, torque, power and direction of rotation
- Lubrication and failure history
- Required quantity and shutdown date
Controlled workflow
The workflow can include incoming inspection, dimensional capture, geometry assessment, material and hardness review, reconstruction of critical values, manufacturability review, approval of assumptions, first-off production, inspection and controlled field feedback.
Frequently asked questions
Can replacement bevel gears be developed from an existing sample?
A sample can support dimensional study, but the most reliable route also includes the mating member, shaft angle, mounting information, speed, torque, material or hardness information and failure history.
What information is required for quotation?
Provide a dimensioned drawing or sample, quantity, module or diametral pitch, tooth counts, pressure angle, spiral hand where applicable, ratio, material, heat treatment, accuracy requirement and expected duty.
Can one member be replaced without the mating gear or pinion?
It may be possible after inspection, but a matched-pair approach is normally preferred because tooth contact, backlash and mounting are interdependent.
How is delivery time determined?
Delivery depends on geometry, quantity, material availability, tooling, heat treatment, finishing, inspection scope and technical approval.
